About Us

We at the Midwives of Windsor are committed to viewing childbirth as a normal, healthy, and family involved event.

Meet the Team

Trish

My name is Trish Langley Frempong, and my passion for this work was ignited by the birth of my eldest daughter at home, where I was fortunate to be cared for by compassionate midwives. This profound experience confirmed my calling to this meaningful profession. My academic studies, diverse work experiences, and key moments in my life have led me to the rewarding path of midwifery.  I believe in a holistic approach to midwifery care, recognizing the importance of addressing physical, emotional, and cultural needs during pregnancy and childbirth. My practice is deeply rooted in respect, informed choice, and empowering clients to make decisions that align with their values and preferences. I have a particular interest in supporting diverse families and I am dedicated to creating a safe, inclusive space for all clients, regardless of their background. I am committed to lifelong learning and advocacy. I regularly participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with the latest research and best practices in midwifery care. I feel deeply honoured to support clients during such a pivotal time and I am committed to providing empathetic, personalized care throughout their journey. At the heart of each step in my career, there has been a deep-seated desire to empower others and serve my community.

Paula

My name is Paula, and I am a British trained midwife who emigrated to Canada in 2005. Following my completion of the International Midwifery Pre-registration Program (IMPP), I began practicing as a Midwife in Ottawa, where I became the founder and practice partner of a Midwifery Practice.  Wanting to be closer to my daughters, who live in the Windsor area, and following the birth of my grandchildren, (who were caught by the hands of the wonderful Midwives of Windsor), I relocated to Windsor-Essex County and joined the Midwives of Windsor in July 2019. I am always excited to be caring for my clients throughout their pregnancy, delivery, and post-partum journey. It brings me great joy to build close bonds and watch families grow.

Crystal

I trained as a RN in Ontario and worked many years as a Nurse. I then realized my life’s ambition was to empower families to have greater opportunities in maternity care.  As there was no option to train in Canada as a midwife I moved to the UK where I worked as a Nurse and trained as a Midwife. I have enjoyed many years working as a midwife in the UK, NWT and Ontario. I have been a Registered Midwife in Ontario since 1997. In 2003, I moved to Windsor and started Midwives of Windsor. I have delivered several thousand babies over the years and love offering the same service to clients in Windsor and Essex County. Catching babies has been a lifelong passion and I strive to bring passion, empowerment and kindness to our clients for their care. We are so pleased to make Windsor our home and have loved discovering the joys this community has to offer.

Ginger

My name is Ginger Girard Fram.  I grew up in Wheatley, went to high school in Leamington where most of my extended family still live.  I earned my first degree at the University of Western Ontario in Health Promotion in 2003, which gave me a strong passion for holistic, person-centred care.  This education compelled me to seek out my midwifery training from Laurentian University in 2009 to learn more about caring for rural and remote people and to have a better understanding of more diverse cultures then I had previously been exposed to in my life up to that point.  I worked in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario where I continued to learn in life and experience as a new midwife, wife and mother before moving back to Windsor-Essex, where I have worked at Midwives of Windsor since 2010.  I really love and feel honoured, to serve my home community.  I am particularly passionate about offering and supporting choice for pregnancy, birth and postpartum.  I also enjoy teaching the next generation of midwives, nurses and doctors and learning from them as well.  I am a proud wife and mother to three busy sons who are always teaching me new things and supporting me as I never stop learning how to be a better me.

Jessalynn

I’m Jessalynn Sheehan. I graduated from the francophone stream of the Midwifery Education Program at Laurentian University in 2012 and spent the start of my career in Kitchener/Waterloo. I grew up in Belle River and am excited to continue my midwifery journey here at home in Windsor – Essex County. I look forward to meeting you!

Corey

I’ve been a midwife since 2017 and living and working in the Windsor and Essex County area since 2020. Becoming a midwife was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I joke with people that midwifery is my Zombie Apocalypse skill, the work I was doing in business prior to this transition would never save my life, but if I can catch a baby…It is so cool to be working with families as they move through this transition in their lives, whether it’s their first pregnancy or their fifth (or more!!) I love being an advocate, a health teacher, a support person, and a resource to clients and their families throughout this journey. I am expecting to graduate from McMaster University’s Master of Science – Midwifery program early in 2025. I am hoping this degree will help to expand the care that midwives can provide in this community and provide me with the tools I need to lead in that direction. In my spare time, you can find me knitting or crocheting, walking my dog, playing video games, cooking up some tasty foods, riding my lawn tractor around my yard, working on home improvement projects, or travelling Canada and the world looking for new experiences.

Jessica

My name is Jessica, and I graduated with honours from Laurentian University with a Bachelor of Health Science in Midwifery in 2019. I pursued extra training and testing, and officially became an Internationally Board-Certified Lactation Consultant in 2023.

I value the midwifery principles of informed choice and have enjoying learning from and with the community in Windsor-Essex County. I enjoy spending time outside with my son.

Karen

My name is Karen Colmenares. Before moving to Canada in 2012, I practiced as an Obstetrician and Gynecologist in Venezuela for over five years. I also finished a sub-specialty in Fertility there. After my arrival in Canada, I worked as a sonographer at Care Imaging (ultrasound department) at Markham Fertility Clinic for three years. I’ve always been passionate about empowering pregnant people and their families throughout their pregnancies, labour, and postpartum period. When I learned about the model of care provided by Canadian midwives, I wanted to learn more about the program and in doing so fell in love with midwifery care. So, my next step was to enroll in the International Midwifery Pre-registration Program (IMPP) at Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson University) which I completed in 2019.

I strongly believe in supporting clients through informed choice and facilitating a safe and meaningful birth and postpartum experience. I have a special interest in pregnancies conceived with the help of fertility treatments and believe that midwifery care can optimally meet the needs of subfertile clients and empower them during their transition from subfertility to parenthood. I am so thrilled and grateful to be back at Midwives of Windsor and look forward to meeting you.

Quiero extender una invitacion a todas aquellas embarazadas de habla hispana que deseen expresarse en su idioma natal y compartir sus experiencias acerca del embarazo, parto y post-parto conmigo.

Sarah

My name is Sarah Facette and I am a new graduate of McMaster University for Midwifery. I was older when I discovered midwifery, but I quickly fell in love with the personalized care and long-term nature of perinatal work. I was blessed to be able to deliver my sister’s first child and immediately made the switch to begin studying midwifery. Having started my midwifery education at Laurentian University, I had the opportunity to travel all over Ontario as part of my learning, including placements in Sudbury, Barrie, Belleville, and Owen Sound. I am excited to be back home here in Essex County. I am extremely passionate about informed choice and providing safe and compassionate care in pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. I look forward to meeting you and being a part of your journey.
